Bay House is tucked away at the end of a narrow lane in Longueville and initially came with its fair share of challenges. The steep terrain made accessibility difficult, and the compartmentalised layout didn’t do justice to the stunning views of Woodford Bay and the Harbour Bridge.

Our clients Chris and Martin wanted a home where they could live comfortably on one level. Somewhere to showcase their art, host friends, and enjoy the ever-changing light over the bay. They wanted a space that felt polished but not fussy, open yet private, with thoughtful design for future mobility needs.

A bold cantilevered structure extends the main living level, hovering above the landscape to reveal stunning views. Floor-to-ceiling glazing dissolves the boundary between interior and exterior, while a sheltered courtyard beside the living area offers a quiet retreat. The elevated lap pool reflects the sky, anchoring the structure and gently blending it with the landscape.

“Castlepeake’s inspiration and attention gave us the 'forever home' we were seeking. Their design is elegant simplicity: useful spaces, great finishes, comfortable in all seasons, a showpiece for our wonderful views of the harbour and city, yet somehow private.”

Dark Kobe board and Barestone cladding contrast with the lush greenery, while inside, painted brick and off-form concrete provide a calm, gallery-like backdrop for art and daily life.

A planted roof improves thermal efficiency, and the home’s elongated form promotes natural cross-ventilation and passive solar gain.

Bay House is now a sanctuary. It is a home that flows with ease and embraces the landscape. Level access ensures comfort and longevity, allowing Chris and Martin to welcome guests, travel freely, or simply sit back and take in the view.

Chris summed it up best “I need to keep pinching myself that this is my house.”
