Whale Beach House 1

Sitting atop the ridge between Pittwater and Whale Beach, central to the brief was encapsulating as much of the view as possible. The house is conceived as a living platform with indoor and outdoor spaces on the main level merging as one as walls of glass slide away. A 6 metre void floods the house with north eastern light, while providing direct lines of site to sky, horizon and breaking surf below. A bridge to the rear of the void allows views across the living space to the beach, with more protected views through the trees to the bay and surrounding bushlandon the other side. Natural rock outcrops to the lower level provide a base for the house and pool, merging with the sandstone walls of the lower level which contains bedrooms and a secondary living space.
