Northbridge House 4
Builder Jakin Construction Group
The existing redbrick and tiled roof structure does not do this site justice. It is however a solid building with good placement of sleeping and living spaces. The project therefore is to remodel the house so that internal spaces relate better to the attributes of the site including water views and the protected level area around the existing swimming pool. As the property fronts two streets, it is intended that the upper entry to the house be clarified as the main entry through a more defined pathway from the street. The existing red bricks are unusual in shape and texture so are being retained and painted as a simple way of providing texture and detail to visually breakdown the large mass of the building. Additional simple materials including fibre cement sheet and plywood are also being introduced to contrast to the masonry structure. The tiled roof is being removed and replaced by a floating skillion adjacent a lower concrete roof defining living and kitchen areas respectively. Sun control devices are being added to the north western facade attached to the existing projecting concrete floor slabs. These not only provide much needed sunshade but also create fine detail to reduce the scale of the north western facade. The project is due for completion May 2017.
