Northbridge House 3
The house is composed of 2 'L' shaped blocks stack on top of one another. This arrangement with the short ends of each 'L' extending to the north creates a courtyard to the ground level, around which living spaces and an outdoor covered deck are arranged, maximising access to sunlight. The upper level master bedroom is located above the deck, creating a framed view from the courtyard and second living space along the length of the pool in the rear yard.
The form of the upper level rakes up to the north and west and is broken down with a series of screens, which modulate light and direct views from within the house to the roof garden over the garage and to the pool and rear yard. The roof garden is visible from the street as the natural slope of the land falls away as you enter the site.
The house has been designed and documented for a fast track approval under the Complying Development legislation, avoiding the time and costs of the more conventional DA process.
