Minimbah
The existing house sits partially cut into the steep terrain and with views across Sailor's Bay to Castlecrag and beyond across Peach Tree Bay to Seaforth. The siting, poor access arrnagements and floor levels of the existing house had created a divorce between the internal spaces and natural ground plane. The alterations to the existing house address these concerns through major internal reconfigurations including a new entry level, southern access spine and lift and relocation of the garaging to street level, which is carved into the rocky earth below a new northern lawn and garden area to the entry level. The main living level is reconfigured to provide a north-south link through the site, allowing access to an elevated northern viewing deck and a protected southern living and pool area at the rear ground plane. The uppermost bedroom level is sliced into 2 sections through a central hallway skylight void which provides much needed natural light deep into the square form and deliniates the bedroom arrangements. The external form of the existing is largely retained with a series of off-form concrete horiztonals protruding forward to break down the large vertical mass and finer scale elements including external sun control louvres and steel balustrading completleting the houses renewal.
