Jack's Place
A simple rectangular form sits amongst natural granite outcrops on the high ground of a paddock in South West New South Wales. The materials speak the language of the Australian shed, with a raw galvanised corrugated iron roof sheeting turning down to form external walls before visually breaking down towards the northern end, giving way to dark cladding. This weathertex board is set back from the edge of the building to protect from the weather, an important consideration for this west-facing site. Internally, the raw plywood finish of the walls and vaulted ceilings creates a visual warmth which complements the views across the stunning countryside. Continuous western windows take in this panorama, with sun protection achieved through motorised louvres. Solar power and rainwater tanks allow Jack’s Place to be fully off-grid.
