Embrasure
Located in the Griffin Heritage zone, this Castlecrag house has been arranged to respond to view, sunlight and heritage constraints. From an unassuming open carport addressing the street, the progression through the house is via a walkway linking internal and external spaces including a large, central, landscaped courtyard. The walkway culminates in an elevated main living space at its northern end. The form of this part of the house is angled at the edges to create privacy, embrace the northern aspect and take in water and bush views. This space perches lightly above a part open / part closed informal recreation area adjacent a new swimming pool and spa. The play of the cantilevered curved forms above will add to the visual enjoyment of this area. At all parts of the house, views and relationship to external garden areas are paramount to the success of the design which is in keeping with the Griffin ideal of dominance of landscape over built form.
