Canopy House
A stunning site with a difficult cross-slope above a waterway, Canopy House looks westwards to Lane Cove Golf Course through a stand of angophora trees. The wide site allows the house to be split into three portions, a stepping of thin forms down the slope which maximises northern winter sun for the internal spaces. A large deck opens from the central main living space, focusing on two large trees and the view beyond. This deck drops down to an internal courtyard which provides light, focus and amenity to the lower level. The roof over the two flanking forms is an asymmetrical gable splayed away from the centre of the house to encourage views upwards into the treetops, further assisting with winter sunlight and reducing the overall height of the building. A new swimming pool is proposed in the lower corner of the site adjacent to the level lawn and lower rumpus room. This position takes advantage of the lower levels in this area and therefore requires no excavation. Bedrooms occupy the upper level, with the master at the western end high in the canopy.
